Innovation programme working of the future

Innovating in co-creation at the Marine Park in Amsterdam.

Together with Bureau Marineterrein and AMS Institute, BLOC is setting up an innovative working environment that focuses on the future of work. A ‘Co-Work & Innovation space’ where existing and new community members come together to pool their knowledge and where continuous improvement is sought in the development of ‘the new way of working’.

Bureau Marineterrein x BLOC

In recent years, Bureau Marineterrein and BLOC have collaborated several times on a perspective for working in the future, with a related programme for the Marineterrein. Thanks in part to financial assistance from the Province of North Holland and the entry of The Institute of Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS Institute) into this cooperation, a lot of hard work has gone into setting up several experiments in recent months. This has laid the first (and perhaps most important) building blocks of this project. BLOC’s role in this project: initiating collaborations, attracting (new) innovative partners and conducting several sprint sessions to work out the experiments.

Soft launch

Several experiments were shared interactively with the community during the Commander’s House Opening (COWO). Below is one of the experiments: Marine Match.

The Marine Park has a close-knit community of innovative organisations that complement each other well. To optimise interaction between these companies and bring about more cooperation, Marine Match is being introduced. An online platform where community members of the Marine Park can get to know each other better.

After the soft launch, these experiments were fine-tuned, filtered and searched for the right partners. Eventually, some of these concept experiments were implemented. Each of these contributed in its own way, directly/indirectly, in the long/short term, to developing a future-proof business park.

Experiments

First of all, there has been considerable investment in strengthening the connection between the various businesses on the site. Thus, community members will soon be able to find each other better via the community platform. This platform will also contribute to the future management of the Marine Park. On the platform, spaces and flex spaces in the COWO can also be booked and other facility information shared. Secondly, an ROC office has been located at the Marineterrein since September. In addition to students, self-employed people and startups will increasingly find the Marineterrein thanks to the rental of the flexible workplaces in the COWO. Finally, knowledge from AMS Institute and TU Delft on sensoring has laid an important foundation for making the outdoor space of the Marineterrein more innovative in terms of working in the future.

This makes the Marine Park as a business park more energetically, future-proof and socially sustainable, which can also serve as an example for other work locations.

We look back on a unique collaboration between Bureau Marineterrein, AMS Institute and BLOC and would like to thank Province of North Holland for the opportunity to guide these experiments and make them a success.
